Salvia has enjoyed some pretty intense reporting over the past year or so. Going from zero to anti-hero in such a short time takes some doing and it is only thanks to a self-fulfilling cycle of news reporting which (apparently) encourages more people to buy Salvia that we are in this situation.

A focus of much of the sudden attention is YouTube where hundreds of videos have appeared in which people are seemingly high on Salvia. Why this is causing such concern is a bit of a mystery, especially when you consider that to buy Salvia is completely legal in most countries worldwide. The focus on YouTube as the cause for an increase in Salvia usage is misguided at best. Rather the reason the videos of people high on Salvia are on YouTube in the first place is that it has had so much press attention. The very people who are calling for the drug’s ban are the ones that are, unknowingly, promoting it to the masses.
