Ruckus about P2P filesharing

Filed under: General — admin @ 2:42 am

Students are united… in their hatred and contempt for the laughable Ruckus.

Ruckus is the music-download service being promoted by universities and colleges as the alternative to the file-sharing ‘problem’. It’s a problem, apparently, in the eyes of the RIAA. Is it really a problem? That’s a completely different discussion for a completely different day.

Here’s why it won’t work: students simply don’t care that their institutions are being put under pressure from the RIAA’s lawyers. All they care about is getting free music, videos, games, and other goodies. File-sharing is so easy for them it is difficult to see why on earth they would want to stop.

And we don’t think they will, at least not if ruckus is the only alternative. Students are united… in their love of file-sharing with applications like Ares. The authorities will certainly have to try harder than this if they want to encourage an amicable switch from ‘problem’ file-sharing to that done with Ruckus.

  6. […] Students enjoy file-sharing for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is convenient, it is free, it is fun. So when someone in authority tells them that they should stop sharing files and start using a service like Ruckus instead, you can imagine the reaction: very little other than ridicule and a certain amount of laughter.
