Not happy with Ares Destiny

Written by Laura on Jun 5th, 2008 | Filed under: General

I didn’t imagine any time in my life where I would really resent a piece of software. It’s an inanimate object, after all, fuelled only by abstract concepts. I really, really, really do resent Ares Destiny, though.

The filesharing program really got my goat because it promised so much but delivered so much more that was unwanted (bear with me and I’ll explain this odd comment).

At the start everything looked good: firstly it was free, which was pretty much my only initial criterion. Secondly everything seemed to work and it made it easy for me to download files and to make them available for others to share. This was ideal and although I realize with hindsight that there are other, better, filesharing applications out there I didn’t know any better at that time.

But what really overturned the apple cart (and rolled it down the hill and shot at it with rockets) was that when it installed, Ares Destiny installed with it another piece of ‘bonus software’ in the form of the Dealio ‘price comparison toolbar’. Dealio is actually a rather horrible piece of spare that invades ever part of your system and starts delivering you popup ads when you least want them.

This is not what I signed up for and I really cannot accept this as acceptable behavior. Ares Destiny, I hate you.
